International exchange with colleagues
Participation in the Smart Energy Systems Conference in Aalborg, Denmark
From 13 to 14 September, the Smart Energy Systems Conference took place in Aalborg, Denmark. Dr. Gerd Hofmann and Thomas Haupt took part and represented the Campus Feuchtwangen of Ansbach University of Applied Sciences.
The International Conference focuses on smart energy systems, sustainable energy, the electrification of the heat and transport sector, electric fuels and energy efficiency. In addition to the presentation and discussion of scientific findings, valuable industrial experiences related to smart energy systems based on renewable energy, district heating systems, the electrification of the heat and transport sector, electric fuels and energy efficiency were also exchanged.
More than 200 participants from 23 countries around the world, seven keynotes and 125 session presentations in five parallel sessions speak for the conference’s position as a rallying point and driver for all topics relevant to the development and implementation of smart energy systems to achieve national and international goals.
Thomas Haupt obviously struck a nerve with his presentation on analysing the impact of smart energy management systems on the economic efficiency of various PV and battery systems. More than 70 listeners as well as local television followed his presentation with rapt attention.
Coal is still stored at the power plant in Nordjyllandsværket – the operator wants to switch completely to renewable energies by 2028.
The conference was rounded off with an excursion to a – still – active coal-fired power plant in Nordjyllandsværket, 20 km west of Aalborg. This power plant currently supplies Aalborg with electricity and district heating. The annual electricity production is 1,400 GWh. To generate this electricity from wind energy, about 80 wind turbines would have to be installed. A heat pump, which uses the seawater in the fjord as an energy source, will then feed the district heating network, among other things. The municipal operator Aablorg Forsyning plans a gradual transformation from coal to renewable energies for this power plant by 2028. For this purpose, different sustainable technologies will be bundled on the approximately 100 ha site and set up as a test centre for similar projects.
“The exchange confirmed to us that we are focusing on exactly the right energy topics at the Campus Feuchtwangen, such as the necessary intelligent networking and the use of artificial intelligence,” says coordinator Dr. Gerd Hofmann.
